Patience is a must

Your Chow Chow needs you to be their strong alpha leader. If you don’t do this, then they can become extremely stubborn and hard to manage. The best way to become the alpha leader is by doing tasks before your Chow Chow. For example, make sure you eat your food before your Chow Chow and secondly, never let them walk through a doorway before you. It’s also best to try and establish this alpha leadership role right from when your Chow Chow is a puppy.
Consistency is key
Consistency is key when Chow Chow training. For instance, be consistent with your rules. If your Chow Chow is not allowed in your bedroom then stick with this. Do not allow your Chow Chow into said room as a special treat every now and then. You also need to be consistent with your chosen commands. If you choose “sit” then stand by this. Do not change it to “sit down” at a later date. If you are inconsistent in these ways then you will only confuse your Chow Chow and your training will take longer.
Repeat everything
You will need to repeat everything over and over again before your Chow Chow will fully know what to do. For instance you will need to repeat the basic commands, “sit”, “down”, and “stay” numerous times before your Chow Chow will grasp what they’re meant to do.
Keep things short
It’s a good idea to keep Chow Chow training sessions short. Ideally, they should go for no longer than five to ten minutes. This is due to the fact that your Chow Chow will not be able to concentrate for very long periods of time. However, it’s okay to have a few of these shorter training sessions throughout the course of day.
Rewards
Rewards are a great way to encourage your Chow Chow to complete a certain task. For example you could give your Chow Chow a reward when they complete the “sit” command correctly. Rewards can be anything from cuddles and praise to a little treat.
Telling your Chow Chow off
Chow Chows are very noble dogs. Due to this they do not respond well to violence. Therefore it is vital you refrain from hitting your Chow Chow as a means to tell them off. It’s also a good idea to avoid yelling at your Chow Chow.
