Therefore, try and establish your alpha leadership role early on. The best way to do this is by making sure you do everything before your Chow Chow. For instance, your Chow Chow should only eat once you have eaten. Secondly, make sure you always walk through doorways before your Chow Chow.

Be Consistent

It’s important to be consistent when learning how to train Chow Chows. For example, you need to stick to your rules and training methods. For example if you choose a rule where your Chow Chow is not allowed on your couch then stand by this. Do not allow your Chow Chow on the couch as a special treat every now and then. Secondly, if you choose the command “down” then, again, stand by this. Do not change it to “down now” at a later date. This inconsistency will only confuse your poor Chow Chow and will prolong the training. So remember – be consistent! Repetition Your Chow Chow will learn everything through repetition. For example, you will need to repeat the “sit” command over and over again before your Chow Chow will fully grasp what they need to do. So remember, repeat everything as much as you can!

Training Sessions

It is best to keep training sessions short at around ten minutes maximum in length. This will allow you to have your Chow Chow’s full attention. Any longer and your Chow Chow may get distracted. However, the great thing is, you can have a couple of these shorter ten minute training sessions with your Chow Chow throughout the period of a day.

Rewarding Your Chow Chow

When learning how to train Chow Chows, you cannot forget rewards. They are an excellent way to encourage your Chow Chow to do a specific training task. You can use small treats as rewards or even just cuddles and praise.
